PPC was founded in 1892 and is today a JSE-listed building materials group operating cement plants across South Africa, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Ethiopia. In South Africa, PPC operates major cement factories in Hercules (Pretoria), De Hoek (Western Cape), Slurry (North West) and Riebeeck (Western Cape). PPC's bursary programme is aimed at developing the technical talent needed to run and improve cement manufacturing operations. Students gain practical exposure to heavy industrial processes during vacation work, and high-performing graduates are offered permanent positions.

- Academic average: Minimum 60% in Mathematics and Physical Science at matric
- Financial need: Financial need is a consideration alongside academic merit
- Work-back obligation: Graduates are expected to work at PPC for at least one year per year of bursary received
